This documentary presents the Majimaji War that erupted from 1905 to 1907 as a fierce resistance against German colonial rule. It shows roots and causes of the war along with its spread in southern Tanzania thereby reflected a growing resolve among the communities to challenge harsh realities of German rule and reclaimed their dignity. Amidst the said war, women were involved and though minimally accorded as heroines, they emerged as well as played a prominent role in the fight against such oppressions. Like any war, Majimaji War had devastating consequences but it is important to note that the war is not just a chapter in Tanzania’s past, it is a reminder of the fight for dignity and independence. Accordingly, as we reflect on the War, we honour the memory of those who sacrificed for a better future. Please join us in understanding this pivotal and epochal moment in history along with its lasting impact on Tanzania today.
